The BARMATECOASTERS journey has been quite a long one, but certainly well worth it!

It all began in 2009, after I had recovered from being “mickied” (drugged) via a cocktail while watching a friend’s band perform at a small bar off the beaten path of Los Angeles. It was a rude awakening, and one that left an indelible mark on me.

I was one of the fortunate ones, as I was able to leave with friends and make it home safely. Knowing that there were many other stories of people being taken advantage of after finding themselves under the influence of a foreign substance via a cocktail or other beverage, and so many stories yet to sadly unfold, I felt a responsibility to try to make a difference and lessen the possibility for others.

The idea of a better coaster or drink cover began to percolate in my mind’s eye shortly thereafter, and in 2010 I took my first step after drafting renderings of what I felt this new coaster/drink cover should look and function like. Once this was completed, I chose to align with Knobbe Martens Intellectual Property Law Firm and immediately got underway with filing for an official U.S. Patent. Shortly after the process of obtaining a U.S. Patent began, I chose to work with a few prototype and design companies until reaching the goal that I had so fervently wanted to accomplish.

In 2019, ten years after this all started, I received a U.S. Patent for BARMATECOASTERS. The final prototype had actually been completed years earlier, but the patent process, as one discovers, can be a lengthy one, but as I mentioned before, well worth it!
